Hideo Otake, the second-generation Takefu, a master craftsman of shogi pieces residing in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture. He makes pieces from carefully aged, genuine Mikurajima Island-grown boxwood. The shaping of the wood and each the carving are done by hand, giving them a distinctive feel.
